Couples choose to tie the knot abroad so that their wedding is a little different to the rest. They opt for an unforgettable location instead of the local town hall, offering guests and family alike a travel experience as well as a wedding celebration. However, with increasingly more couples choosing to get married in diverse, accommodating and beautiful countries such as Italy, it’s also important to find a spectacular venue that is packed with character and personality.

A wedding venue says a lot about the couple: it speaks of their style, their budget and their party size. This is why it’s important to find one that suits your individual personalities, rather than the first one you come across in your destination/location. That’s why we’ve scoured Italy for wedding venues that are a little different. Each of them are wonderfully unique in their own right, and are perfect for destination weddings. Which one is your favourite?

1. Grotta Palazzese, Puglia

Yes, in Italy, a cave wedding possible. You and your guests can indulge in delicious Italian cuisine with the incredible sounds of Mediterranean waves crashing against the rocks. This is one of the most fascinating venues in the world.

Providing a romantic and dramatic backdrop to your wedding celebrations, Hotel Restaurant Grotta Palazzese dates back to the 18th century as a prestigious party hall for Duca Leto. Enjoy the glistening waters, the unbeatable sunset, the live music and personalised services – it’s an exclusive environment that your guests will never forget.

2. Villa Andrea di Isernia, Naples

Nestled between the lava rocks and clear blue sky, Villa Andrea di Isernia is one of our favourite wedding venues in Naples – simply for the spectacular views. Be sun kissed by the Mediterranean sunset as you overlook the open sea of the Gulf of Naples and its twinkling lights at dusk.

The luxury swimming pool terrace here is perfect for welcome aperitifs and for cutting the cake, while the villa’s pretty gardens can host your ceremony and alfresco dining. A venue perfect for a sophisticated and elegant wedding style, with its grand architecture and impeccable service. Here you will find a dedicated team who will adapt suitably to your every destination wedding need.

3. Gran Melia, Rome

The Grand Melia Rome is pretty in pink. In fact, we think it’s up there with the most unique venues in Italy because its city centre location provides panoramic views of the eternal city, being just a few steps from the Vatican. You’ll be surrounded by the soft pinks of this hotel’s architecture, combined with the renaissance cityscape of Rome, oozing with timeless romance.

Complete with a multi-starred chef to create exclusive and personalised menus for your Italian banquet, your wedding reception at The Grand Melia will be flawless from start to finish. This setting is perfect for those seeking city glamour and authenticity with their destination wedding venue.

4. Grand Hotel La Chiusa di Chietri, Bari

The Grand Hotel La Chiusa di Chietri is one of the most interesting hotel structures we’ve seen in Europe, with a medieval aesthetic. Think large open spaces with Mediterranean gardens, fountains and a swimming pool, enhanced by the romantic atmosphere of the sunsets over the Valle d’Itria. The hotel also offers large marquees and gazebos for cool summer evenings in the lush green and fragrant gardens.

The rooms and suites are no different, with white and stone walls and cosy furnishings in this original structure. The staff at La Chiusa di Chietri know how to ensure that every event is simply magical, so you can entrust them with your fairytale wedding in Italy.
