Welcome Namrata, we are delighted to be sitting down and speaking with you. We’ve been a fan of your work since day one, we’ve watched your career grow and grow, and now we can finally say we’re going to be working with you on something we are very excited about.

Yes, I’m very excited to be Zankyou India’s brand ambassador! I think what you guys are doing at Zankyou is really cool and it really encourages interaction by getting different artists from not only the country but all over the world to come and collaborate on something global.

The reason I chose to work with you is because of this, because Zankyou chooses only the best of the best, and really looks after their clients by letting them know that they’re there for them day-by-day, and all they have to do is download the app… To be part of something like that is very very special to me.

Now for those who aren’t familiar with where you started out, or for those that are yet to hear about you, tell us where it all began.

Well it all started when I started assisting my Aunt, Coleen Khan, who encouraged me to start training myself, so I did! I learned all the basics when I did a one-week course, and then decided that this would be the path for me. I finished college and went to Delamar Academy of Makeup in London to learn more! Since then I have been extremely lucky to do what I do every day!

Amazing. And of course your job sounds perfect but what’s your favourite part?

I consider myself as one of the lucky ones; I get paid for doing something that I love! My job excites me every day, and the thing that I love most? I love that each time I start my day, I’m working on a different face. I have done make-up looks for movies, editorials, theatres, events and campaigns, and each time it’s something different.

Who has been your favourite face to work on?

Sonam Kapoor, 100%. She’s incredibly versatile and knows her passion. We get along very well; we both started out at the same time and grew together as artists. She has encouraged me to explore and experiment and as a result we have created some really wonderful looks that have become iconic.

That’s great. The looks that you’ve done for her are inspiring. What would be your predictions for 2018 bridal make up?

I think dark magenta lips will be on trend this season, especially as it’s such a good, winter look. I predict that women will start leaning towards darker eyes. The smudged eye is such a classic look, and I think it’s a great way for a bride to try something new without stepping too far out of their comfort zone.

Perfect. And some artists are of the idea that brides should wear the make-up that they feel comfortable in. What do you think about this?

I’ve always loved trends, but I think as a bride you need to be comfortable. So just because the trend may be purple eye-shadow, it doesn’t mean that it will suit you or that you have the confidence to carry it off. I would advise doing a version of it, and always try a couple of different things beforehand so you know how it’s going to look on you and you know how it’s going to photograph. What I would say is: stick to classic for the ceremony, but for the other functions you can have a little fun with it!

Now to finish up, we always want to know what make-up artists carry have in their bag. It’s sometimes hard to know what to take with you when you leave the house for the day but for you, what are the two things that you cannot cope without?

A mascara and a tinted lip balm.

Short and sweet! Thanks a lot for sitting down and talking with us!
