Once more this year, bridal fashion is leading the way. The best bridal catwalks of the international scene have presented stunning new collections of wedding dresses for 2017. Trends from past years remain in force but with other new fresh styles joining them, delighting brides looking for the perfect design for the day of their wedding. Carrying that perfect feeling into such a special occasion is essential, and therefore there are many brands that have an array of silhouettes, shapes and styles fit for whatever look a bride to be has in mind.

There are all kinds of silhouettes on offer, with the timeless classic princess cut wedding dresses and mermaid cut dresses being the two most prominent. What really caught our attention most of all, is the amount of light and airy designs with skirts made in fine fabrics like crepe. Rosa Clara in particular really went for this airy and romantic style. Elegant and alluring dresses with figure hugging silhouettes are ideal for brides wanting to make a real statement on their big day.

In contrast with mermaid deisgns, the other most notable silhouette was the princess cut, complete with fabulous voluminous skirts. Belted at the waist with spectacular skirts that make you look and feel like a fairy tale princess! Jesus Peiro, Rosa Clara and Galia Lahav all include exquisite examples of this in their 2017 collections.

Necklines

Although there are all kinds of necklines on offer next season, wedding dresses with illusion necklines remain in pole position. With beautiful bodices embroidered with tulle or fine lace details, it’s a winning combo and super flattering that suit all brides-to-be!

There was also a huge presence of skin baring necklines in most new collections, such as deep plunging designs. We can’t get over this super sensual neckline, one of the best options in our opinion, especially for brides who want to be daring and bold. Think luxe lace, tulle or just the same fabric as the rest of the body to create the most sensual designs.

Along with these two necklines, which we predict will remain hot trends throughout 2017, we also saw beautiful open back wedding dresses in both minimal and ornate styles. The simplicity of a minimal sleek design on the front is beautifully complemented with ultra romantic ornate backsRosa Clara 2017 really made this trend wow worthy by adding precious stones as a beautiful finishing touches on waists and shoulders, which create the illusion of a necklace at the back.

Precious stones, transparencies and volume

When we talk about bridal gowns, it’s often the details that make a huge difference and create a spectacular design that draws attention for its unique qualities. For the 2017 collections rhinestones, transparencies and volume play a big part.

Precious stones, both pearl embroidery and encrusted with crystals, are an exquisite touch on dresses. This can be seen to work to great effect on designs by Jenny Packham, which are made of embroidered tulle with rhinestones and create a second layer of fine satins and crepes. On belted wedding dresses like the gorgeous one pictured below by Jesus Peiro, rhinestones can be incorporated on the back and shoulders to create a beautiful effect.

Transparencies took to the catwalk with great style! International designers are constantly blowing us away with new and innovative ways to incorporate transparent details to their latest collections. Transparencies can now be seen to feature on the sleeves, neckline, back, even throughout complete designs. The Pronovias wedding dresses are a good example of this, as well as the collections of YolanCris and Cymbeline. Guipure and wonderful lace of all kinds help to create the most stylish transparencies.

The 2017 collections from Vera Wang and Rosa Clara, blew us away with the new voluminous designs. These dresses are perfect for a classic bride, but also have a subtle modern touch. The Oscar de la Renta collection did similar, with added volume in the neck, waist and chest, orthodox bridal fashion seemingly surrendering to peplum effects and bows that provide spectacular volume and the motion that comes with it.
