Spanish Congress passed a law in favour of same-sex marriages back in 2005, and since then, many gay and lesbian couples have chosen Spain to tie the knot. In the UK, as you probably know, same-sex marriage (as opposed to a civil partnership, which has been legal since 2004) came into effect in 2015, which which we were really excited about here at Zankyou.

Destination weddings have been a big thing for a while now, with lots of couples taking a flight to get to their wedding venue! In Spain, destination weddings are an option for same-sex couples, but one half of the couple must either be Spanish or both non-Spanish members of the couple must be resident in Spain.

So, if you’re Spanish but living abroad and want to go back home to celebrate your big day, or if you’ve been living legally as foreigners in Spain, now’s the time to think about planning your same sex-wedding in Spain!
