How To Organise A Gay Wedding In Ireland

Ireland is the first nation in the world to legalise same sex marriage by popular vote and we’re sure they couldn’t be happier! Ever since 2015, the Emerald Isle has become one of the world’s most popular wedding destinations for same sex couples. Gay weddings in Ireland are incredibly popular with couples from around the world. Same-sex couples have been flocking here since the big vote and, of course, local couples are finally getting the chance to say “I do” in their homeland.

As a wedding photographer in Ireland, it has been an incredibly exciting time and I’ve learned so much over the past few years that I’d love to share. Here’s what you need to know about gay weddings in Ireland:

The Logistics

It’s all about equality in Ireland! Every couple intending to get married needs to visit the local Registrar’s Office for a “Three Month Notification of Intention to Marry” appointment. This is typically not a big deal for locals, although it may mean taking the day off of work. For those living outside of Ireland, however, this is a major factor to be considered.

If you are living abroad, you will need to plan on being physically present in Ireland to attend your appointment so be sure to factor this into your planning. You can read all about it on the Irish government website so you arrive prepared.

Finding the Perfect Venue

Call me biased but I think Ireland has the best wedding venues in the world. From stately castles to picture perfect beaches, the Emerald Isle has an incomparable natural beauty.

Of course, choosing a wedding venue is a highly personal decision that depends on your style, budget, and the size of your guest list. After photographing some of the most impressive wedding venues on earth, I’ve put together a complete guide to finding your perfect wedding venue in Ireland to help locate your dream destination.

Getting Organised

As a wedding photographer, I have met enough nervous grooms and frazzled brides to know that wedding planning isn’t easy. A dream wedding doesn’t come together overnight. In fact, it is hard to pull it off in a calendar year! All of the picture perfect gay weddings in Ireland that I’ve been lucky enough to play a role in have been the result of a lot of hard work.
