Dolce & Gabbana Spring Summer 2019: Diversity Reigns In Milan

The world of fashion is currently undergoing a very important change. If the 90s and the noughties were characterised by a devotion to a superficial form of femininity, and a very restrictive definition of beauty, then we can say with certainty that this decade has seen the doors opened to diversity. And Dolce & Gabbana has showcased this evolution perfectly in their most recent catwalk for their Spring-Summer 2019 collection in Milan, with all kinds of models present in the catwalk.

We’re not talking about a different catwalk or exhibition, but the primary celebration of the new season, in which models of all different genders, abilities, ages and body-shapes participated. These models all showed off the classic imagery we associate with Dolce Gabbana, from their iconic logo to their black dresses, and suits with golden brocade fabrics – personality, character and Italian style were all present. The standout pieces of this collection, without doubt, were the dresses that we saw all possible versions of: long, short, embossed, minimalist, risqué, simple, form-fitting and with all different kinds of skirts and sleeves.

And for such a star-studded collection, a star-studded audience was required – in this case including such famous faces as the incredible Monica Bellucci, who opened the show, Eva Herzigova, Carla Bruni, Isabella Rossellini and Helena Christensen. But the most important part of the catwalk show was of course the variety of models who featured for the brand, showing the real diversity of beauty that exists in the world – a field that becomes more and more open to reality outside of the fashion world with every passing year.
