Originality is always a good thing, and this is true for photography as much as anything – or perhaps especially for photography. This seems to make photography and weddings a perfect match, with every couple and their wedding having their own unique character and story. That said, as creative and open minded as some people can be with their wedding photos it is understandable that this creativity is tempered by the need to capture the reality of the couple and their wedding day.
We talked to the staff of FotoEmozioni, a photography studio near Portofino that deals with wedding photography and even honeymoon photography that proves popular for couples having their honeymoon in Italy. In addition to these offerings, FotoEmozioni have something on the menu that offers a chance for happy couples to max out on the creativity without feeling held back by the formality of a wedding day called “trash the dress”. Here’s what they told us about it.
1. So, just what is “trash the dress” photography?
Trash the dress is a fun and whimsical photo session, dedicated to the couple who want to get back into their bride and groom outfits in a striking location for a few hours of photography that are designed to be enjoyed without having to worry about making sure everything is just right. Ultimately it’s about choosing a great location and letting your creative side run wild in whatever crazy or exciting ways you wish!
Unlike the day of the wedding, where the bride and groom are often a little tense and worried about everything going to plan, during a trash the dress session it’s much more relaxed and couples are able to spend time having fun and focussing on the photo session. No need to stress about getting back to the party, you can really be yourselves and live in the moment.
Depending on the type of pictures you wish to have as a keepsake dressed in your wedding attire, you can figure out the right location with our help. You could have magazine style photos or romantic moments full of fun and games in which you no longer have to worry about ruining the dress and can even actively trash it!
Our photographic approach to people is always very natural and spontaneous, trying to put couples at ease before getting to work. The purpose is to capture the bride and groom in a spontaneous and natural light, leaving them free to move as they wish throughout the shoot. We want out service at FotoEmozioni to offer couples the chance to trash the dress after the wedding in whatever relaxing or fun way they like.
The trash the dress shoot allows you to have so much more freedom, choosing the hours of the day that have favorable lighting without being constrained by the wedding reception plans or even the reception’s location. Many brides like to take their trash the dress pictures in the water! When it’s a trash the dress shoot you can immerse yourself and make some waves in a way that just would not be possible to on your wedding day, often resulting in the most beautiful and stunning images.
2. How many years have you been doing trash the dress shoots and why?
We been offerring this service right from our business first began, before we even realised it was becoming all the rage in the US and a number of other places! The idea was to give couples the opportunity to destroy their dress during amore creative photo session after the wedding or honeymoon. The purpose of these pictures isn’t to make people believe the images were taken on the wedding day, it’s simply to offer an additional service to the couple and give them a chance to enjoy the party on their big day with their guests. This way they know that they will have time for more photographs later on, without any kind of stress or rush.
Today, more and more importance is given to the reception and attending to your guests through the whole wedding day. By choosing to go for a trash the dress shoot, you allow yourself a more stress-free wedding day.
This type of service is also really interesting for couples who want a destination wedding, but for various reasons may not be able to fulfil this wish. They can then choose to treat themselves to a photo shoot in Italy after the wedding. We can arrange for their dream photo shoot in the most fascinating and romantic places of our country, and possibly even during their honeymoon in Italy.
3. What kind of couples tend to go for these sessions?
Usually couples are very relaxed and eager to get involved. Whilst it’s the norm that most couples hire a photographer for their wedding day, this is perfect for couples who aren’t too keen on being photographed and are a a bit worried about being in the spotlight on their big day. The type of couple asking for a trash the dress photo session want to be photographed with less formality and pressure, and they can’t wait to have fun and mess up their dress. Our approach is very natural and is not about posing in the way many wedding day sessions are. It helps couples who prefer being photographed in a relaxed way.
4. What are the other services offered by your studio?
In addition to the trash-the dress shoot, we also offer engagement and couple sessions because we enjoy telling love stories in all its forms. Often during these photo sessions, we also suggest that couples who have dogs bring them along, being members of the family in many respects. Among other things, their faithful four legged friend is often a great aid for the photographer, because it also helps couples who maybe a bit more camera shy to feel less like the centre of attention.
5. Do you offer special services to couples coming from abroad?
We love to travel and like to experience different cultures! We are also well set up to work with couples who don’t speak Italian. We are willing to travel everywhere in Italy, for engagement photo sessions, trash the dress and other many others such as honeymoon photo sessions. We offer flexible solutions, a few hours of photography to photographing couples over several days. We love to capture photos of newlyweds on their unforgettable trip of a lifetime in our beautiful country, so they can go home with equally beautiful images of their honeymoon.
Thanks to the amazingly creative photographers at FotoEmozioni for their insiders look at the hot new trend trash the dress photos!
