As this year draws to a close, Zankyou are looking back on all of the celebrities who popped the question or said “I will” in 2017. It’s truly been an eclectic year for romance with an array of celebrities from all walks of life gearing up to walk down the aisle in 2018. We’re talking royals, reality stars and Hollywood A-listers to name but a few.
Amid all the doom and gloom that has dominated this year’s news cycle, it may initially seem as though 2017 lacked any sparkle or romance. Not true! Thanks to Instagram and Twitter, we’ve been given front row access to some of the most romantic proposals of this year, and 2017’s celebrity engagements have certainly done a stellar job of reaffirming our faith in romance!
While the engagement on everybody’s lips is obviously the fairytale story of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, 2017 has witnessed many more big names popping the question. From actresses Kaley Cuoco and Felicity Jones to sports stars Lance Armstrong and Caroline Wozniacki, check out our full round-up of who will be walking down the aisle in 2018!
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
This is surely the engagement of the year on everybody’s lips, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for the happy couple! Having been introduced by a mutual friend in 2016, the pair enjoyed a long-distance relationship before Meghan moved in with Harry earlier this year, and he popped the question at their cottage during a quiet night in! The couple will buck royal tradition by marrying on a Saturday in the spring of 2018 in Windsor. We cannot wait to see how gorgeous a bride Meghan will be!
Felicity Jones and Charles Guard
English rose Felicity Jones, most notable for her roles in Chalet Girl and The Theory of Everything, said “yes” to her fiancé, director Charles Guard, in May of this year following a two-year romance.
Quentin Tarantino and Daniella Pick
Infamous Oscar-winning director Quentin Tarantino is off the market after popping the question to girlfriend Daniella, a 33-year-old singer from Israel during a break to Los Angeles. The two first met in 2009, and the bride-to-be has told sources that “[they] are very happy and excited”. The engagement comes a year after Tarantino announced plans to retire from the movie business. We hope married life will suit him just as well!
Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara
While celebrating her 24th birthday, the All About The Bass singer received the surprise of her life when 25-year-old beau Daryl, a former star of the Spy Kids franchise, popped the question. Meghan took to Instagram to describe how he asked her. “He proposed to me under a tunnel of beautiful Christmas lights and surprised me with my family and friends. I’m still in shock. I’ve never been this happy!”. The pair have been dating for a little over a year. Congratulations!
Millie Mackintosh and Hugo Taylor
They were one of the most on-again, off-again couples in Made In Chelsea, and after Quality Street heiress Millie divorced from her first husband, rapper Professor Green, nobody was really too surprised to see her run back into the arms of Chelsea beau Hugo. A representative for the couple confirmed that he popped the question while holidaying in Greece, and Millie has since been seen sporting a whopper of an engagement ring.
Jess Shears and Dom Leaver
Love Island was the undisputed TV hit of the summer, leaving almost the entire British Isles talking about their types on paper. Although we were disappointed to hear that winners Kem and Amber had split after winning viewers’ hearts during their stint on the show, we’re absolutely over the moon at the prospect of Jess and Dom tying the knot! The pair got engaged after a whirlwind three-month romance.
Kaley Cuoco and Karl Cook
Big Bang Theory’s beloved star Kaley was surprised by her boyfriend on her 32nd birthday in November when he popped the question. Karl, a professional equestrian, filmed the big moment which left Cuoco positively in shock. The happy news comes a few months after Kaley finalised her divorce settlement with her first husband. We wish the new couple all the best and every happiness!
Caroline Wozniacki and David Lee
These two gorgeous sports stars announced that they were to be wed in true millennial style… on Instagram. Wozniacki described the event as the “happiest day of my life yesterday saying yes to my soulmate”, showing off a whopper of an engagement ring sure to weigh her down next Wimbledon!
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner
In October, hearts around the world were broken when teenage heartthrob, Joe Jonas, announced his engagement to Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner. The pair were first romantically linked just a year earlier, but we’re sure that the wedding ceremony and reception are sure to be star-studded events which will see the coming together of Hollywood elite and the world’s biggest music stars.
Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons
We’re super excited about this on-screen couple continuing their romance in real life. The two actors played each other’s love interest in the series Fargo, and life has appeared to imitate art as the Spiderman sweetheart flashed her gorgeous engagement rock at Paris Couture Week earlier this year.
Kit Harington and Rose Leslie
Another case of life imitating art! These two Game of Thrones sweethearts announced their engagement after a five-year-long courtship in quintessentially British tradition. The Times newspaper reported that ‘the engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire’. Sorry, ladies, we can keep dreaming!
Lance Armstrong and Anna Hansen
Disgraced former 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong announced his engagement in May to long-time girlfriend Anna. The two are already parents to Max and Olivia, so upcoming nuptials are no surprise. It is Armstrong’s second engagement, having previously been married to Kristin Richard, with whom he fathered three children. Lance shared this sweet snap of him popping the question on Lake Austin, Texas.
Kate Mara and Jamie Bell
Yet another thespy couple, these two met back in 2015 on the set of Fanastic Four. There have previously been rumours of the pair getting engaged over the past couple of years (which they have repeatedly shut down) but this time it’s for real and we’re over the moon! Kate debuted her gorgeous ring at the beginning of the year and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for this beaut couple.
We’ve absolutely loved looking back on some of the most romantic moments of this calendar year. Imaginative proposals, long-term sweethearts, and on-screen love blossoming in real life… all of these couples have most definitely proven that romance isn’t dead. We wish all of these celebs all the best and can’t wait to see these gorgeous brides and grooms to-be walk down the aisle at some point next year!
