They both spent a period of their university lives in Italy doing the Erasmus programme and because of this, their paths ended up crossing and a love story began. On 19th August, Joana (Portuguese) and Iván (Spanish) said their “I dos” and so began the rest of their lives together. A beautiful and lively wedding by the Music Beats team that was captured by Profoto Studios, who were kind enough to share with us some of the best moments of the day!

How did you meet?
We met 8 years ago in Italy when were were both on Erasmus.
How long after did he propose and when did you decide to get married?
The proposal came at a time when I (Joana) had decided that it made no sense to get married, but deep down I really, really wanted to. He also agreed that it was pointless to tie the knot, which made the proposal even less expected and more surprising.
What was the proposal like?
Iván proposed on my birthday, in our house, with exciting videos of when we met and the countless trips we’d been on together!
How would you describe your love story?
Our love story is unique and has been lived with so much love from day one. We spent 8 years living apart from each other, with all the ups and downs that come with a long-distance relationship and with great proof that love speaks louder than any of that. It surpasses all borders and all cultural differences!
How was the wedding organisation process?
The organisation simply could not have gone better! In addition to us being happier than ever, we were able to count on great providers and friends: from the photographers, Profoto Studios (who made us very comfortable), to the venue and caterers, Divinal Catering and Palácio da Igreja Velha. The priest was fantastic, Mr. Robson Oliveira and the entertainment, Music Beats, we could not have made better choices.
What was the most difficult decision you had to make regarding the organisation? And what was the easiest? How come?
The most difficult was the venue, because we couldn’t make a decision at first. But when we saw the palace we just knew that that was going to be our wedding venue. The easiest decision was the photography team, they were just perfect and made everything a breeze.
Did you choose a certain theme for your big day?
Yes we opted for vintage style with the theme of “travel”.
Where did you go for inspiration?
Just from our own personal tastes, really. The name of my dress is actually “Vintage” so I suppose that’s very fitting.
How was the big day? If you could, would you go back and change anything?
Memorable and very emotional. You could really feel how much of a celebration of our love this was. Also the strength and love from family and friends, especially parents and siblings, was essential in this new stage of our lives! If we could, yes, we would have made the wedding last for days, as it was the happiest day of our lives.
Where did you go for honeymoon? Would you recommend it?
Our honeymoon was in Bali! We recommend it fully because after such an intense day in Bali you can relax and enjoy all its cultural surroundings. As they say here, you can really align your chakras and achieve inner peace.
