Whilst building the perfect board, it’s all about dreaming. Anything goes, budgets don’t exist and you’re allowed to be as frivolous as you want. If we played with Barbie dreamworlds as infants and dreamed up lives for people on Sims as teenagers, then Pinterest is your chance to slip comfortably into the realms of the dream world once again.

1. It’s all about the location

If you fancy a moonlit affair on the Amalfi coast or fairy light clad nuptials in a cave in Mexico, now is your chance. Every perfect pinner finds the wackiest of destinations and pins themselves into oblivion. We’re talking table arrangements, views, photo opportunities, seating plans and colour schemes. Pin them all and plan the wedding of your dreams (in cyber space, duh) that everyone will be jealous of.

2. Dazzle in Your Dream Dress

We all deny it, but it’s all about the dress. Pinterest is the birthplace of your dream dress so, pin away, ladies. A candid shot of the intricate antique lace adorning the back of the gown is always a winner as is a zoomed-in shot of the buttons running down the back. Designer, vintage or couture, pin anything that takes your fancy and us it as a starting point for finding your ideal number. Often, pictures will have links to various websites. Who knows, you might actually find the one!

4. The Beauty Shot

Once you’ve established what look you’re going for, Pinterest is an excellent place to collect beauty ideas and shots. Links to videos, how-to-guides and step by step tutorials mean that you can use your treasured pins to experiment with what works for you.

You can even study the beauty fashion shots on your board (see below) and perfect your most sincere “I’m naturally beautiful” pose ready in time for your big day. Hey, we all need to be able to identify our good angle!

5. Flower Me Happy

One rule of Pinterest is that one must always (emphasis on the always) shower one’s inspiration board with an abundance of floral arrangements. On this occasion,  the rule that less is always more simply does not hold water and therefore, it’s time to go a little wild.

6. Culinary Delights

What would a wedding be without food? Pinterest is rich with foodies, so it’s the perfect place to collect quirky ideas and original aesthetics for your grub. Who wouldn’t love mini bride and groom themed cakes? The chosen wedding nibble du jour, it seems, are kitsch, so focus on the small, minuet and cute. Bite size, ladies, is certainly the way to go.

7. The Token Black & White Shot

There’s not much to say here really, except that there exists an unwritten rule for pinners that you must have at least one black and white photograph as inspiration. Why? I hear you ponder. Oh, come on, everything looks more romantic in noir & blanc, non?

8. The Artsy Couple

The trend continues, being cute is cool so it’s time to find your inner artsy hipster and let her loose on your wedding. Anything that makes you go ‘aww’ is Pinterest worthy. Think anything hand-made, recycled or vintage. Incorporating niche pieces into your board and thus, into your day will give it an edge that will make it suitably adorable and what’s more, utterly memorable.

9. Fairy lights, Fairy Lights and Oh Wait… More Fairy Lights

What can I say? Fairy lights are just a given. Twist them, layer them, stack them and adore them. The rule is, there is no rule. Fairy lights work if you’re going for the festival themed wedding, the glamorous wedding or the minimalist wedding. Plus, they’re a cheap way of making a venue look a million dollars. Convinced yet?
