Requirements
As with any marriage in Italy, you have to obtain a Nulla Osta (a legal document that the Italian Authorities require for the ceremony to take place). To do this, you need to get a Certificate of No Impediment at you local registry less than six months before the big event.
You don’t need a residency permit for a marriage in Italy, but since their ceremonies are legally binding, other documentation is required.
For a marriage in one of Lake Como’s enchanting Catholic churches, you will need proof of your single status, which are easy to obtain from a local solicitor. Civil ceremonies can take place almost anywhere, and are often officiated by the local Mayor.
Remember that these documents need to be translated. It is also protocol to have an interpreter at Italian weddings.
