Bart and Kim met for the first time nearly 13 years ago at a carnival in the village of Breda – a small city in southern Holland. It took him 12 years, but in August 2017, Bart dropped to one knee and proposed to the love of his life – and to make it extra special, asked on her birthday! Kim described the set-up for the proposal as incredibly romantic, and we have to agree – Bart took her out onto the water for an intimate boat trip, and upon their return to the shore, surprised her with a beautiful picnic (and of course, champagne!). It’s no wonder she said yes! And a year on, their wedding ceremony took place, captured on camera by the brilliant Wilma van Hoesel.

Bart and Kim faced an initial stumbling block as they lived in completely separate parts of the Netherlands to one another, and so had to travel extensively; they went all over, from Nijmegen to Breda to Eindhoven to Rotterdam… However, they both say it was completely worth it, and were not put off! In the end, the couple decided to move in together in Amsterdam, where they designed and built their own apartment.

After 12 months of planning, Bart and Kim’s dream of a beautiful big day was finally made a reality! The couple opted for a beach theme, meaning they had to travel from Amsterdam to Zandvoort – a 40 minute journey – to marry by the sea. Kim’s lovely wedding dress was sourced from the Honeymoon Shop in Rotterdam, as well as her shoes. Bart’s suit was from Michael & Giso, a designer found in Amsterdam.

Although their wedding day was full of wonderful moments, they agree that the most special time for them was the first time they saw each other on that morning. Kim walked down the stairs of their shared apartment straight into Bart’s arms – both unable to move away from one another. This intimate moment was captured expertly on camera by Wilma van Hoesel – and we can feel the romance from hundreds of miles away!

To make their wedding even more impressive for all of you at home, Bart and Kim managed to pull it off without a wedding planner! That is why the couple recommends that others start preparing with a lot of time to spare – that way, you can enjoy it for longer and think carefully about every decision, they affirm. Only by doing this can your wedding be truly personal.

Kim’s hair and makeup were taken care of by Pamela Scholze, with all of the floral arrangements for the big day arranged and delivered by Miss Bloemen, in Haarlem. The car used to transport the couple from their apartment to the beachside location was rented – we love the vintage touch added by the classic red Fiat 500!

However, for the couple and their guests, the dream became real during the ceremony. There was a lot of laughter thanks to the fantastic celebrant who spoke, and a lot of love shared all around. Following the beach wedding ceremony, the couple and their family and friends retreated to a nearby venue to enjoy drinks and dancing, with saxophonist Derick Stadwijk providing the music!
