Florian + Sarah: A Traditional Jewish Wedding Ceremony Set in a Cinema in Paris

A non-conventional Jewish wedding in a cinema in Paris. We needn't say more.

Having met in a cinema, French couple Florian and Sarah, wanted to include a cinematic aspect in their wedding plans. In fact, they ended up holding their traditional Jewish wedding ceremony in the cinema where they first met, surrounded by beautiful, old-fashioned cameras and all their friends and family. Below we have showcased some of the best photos from the wedding, all taken by Juli Etta.

The Proposal

Sarah recalls how Florian asked for her hand in the most perfect way. They were both in Florence celebrating the anniversary of when they had first met, when he got down on one knee and asked Sarah to marry him quoting one of their favourite funny lines from one of their favourite films!

The preparations

We called up the ‘Cinéma des Cinéastes’ to see if they would be open to the idea of letting us host our wedding in one of the cinema theatres, and luckily they were a huge fan of the idea and couldn’t wait to help us with organising it! Initially we really wanted to host our wedding in a cinema theatre but we soon realised that the layout and sheer number of seats was going to be too restricting. Instead we managed to find somewhere a bit more classic but still with the same touch of originality. We really wanted to make sure that our big day was going to be special for both of us, so we put our heads together and shared all our favourite ideas to do with cinemas. For example we decided that we would decorate the venue with film posters to give the room an authentic cinematic touch!

The big day

We had done a lot of planning by the time the big day came around in order to make sure that we wouldn’t have to worry about too much on the actual day! Luckily everything went to plan meaning we could just sit back and really enjoy the celebrations and all our hard work. One of the highlights was having the Klezmer Trio come and get things going in the evening. We sang a couple of traditional yiddish songs with them and a couple of French ones too! Of course we wanted all of our guests to be able to join in too, so we made sure that we had a traditional hymn and even a karaoke number thrown in there for everyone to enjoy!
