Valadier reworked the Casino Della Rota, a XVIIth century building built on the remains of an ancient Roman cistern, with the idea of creating a refreshment place inspired by French bistros. The result was one of the most popular places in the capital, where personalities of the artistic, political and cultural world liked to gather, from the unification of Italy to the first post-war period. During the Second World War it was used as German and English Officers Club; and after the Second World War it continued to be frequented by celebrities and VIPs.
