Meet George and Gabija, the down to earth and care-free couple that had a beautifully intimate wedding, celebrating only with their closest friends and family. Planning the whole wedding in less than 6 months, everyone chipped in and the whole day ended up feeling like a small festival with each guest having added their own personal touch to make the day so very special!
“We wanted our wedding day to reflect our personalities, our lifestyles and the way we do things.” And it really did! With friends and family having travelled from different parts of the world to share their special day, they decided that they wanted to spend as much time as possible with them. “Quite a few of them arrived a few days before the wedding and helped us to prepare for our big day.” Each and every one of them played their part in helping to make the day as special as possible!
The Planning
From flower arrangements, preparing wedding favours and the wedding cake and entertainment, almost all aspects of their day were carried out by the couple themselves and their friends and family! “Even decorating the marquee and beer tent- despite the fact it meant putting up our wedding arch in the pouring rain!” The couple decided that, true to their playful personalities, they weren´t going to follow any particular colour scheme- “It was fun just improvising and trying to make things look beautiful and very natural.”
The Flowers
A very special touch, were the bride´s flower bouquet. Always having had a love for flowers, Gabija arranged her bouquet herself. “I ordered bunches of pink, blue and white flowers and added lots of foliage like eucalyptus and ruscus”
The Dress Code
The wedding dress-code was Cocktail with a bohemian twist – dreamy pastels or eye-catching colours, romantic blooms or sparkly finery for women and summer suits with dapper accessories for men. “We wanted everyone to be creative and look smart but not formal.”
Who wore what?
The newlyweds said their I dos looking as gorgeous as ever, with the bride dressed in a gorgeous Catherine Deane dress, and the groom looking suave in a Paul Smith burgundy suit.
The Bride’s Look
Gabija did a lot of research online for her dress, but finally fell in love with the Tamsin dress by Catherine Deane. “When I saw the dress I knew it was the one. It took me about 3 hours to try the dress, make a decision and purchase it.”
Finding the perfect shoes however were a much harder. Wanting to find something a bit more unusual and unique, the bride opted for red suede heels from Nicholas Kirkwood. “I never imagined myself wearing bridal shoes and couldn’t find anything I liked so when I came across these heels, I thought they’d look quite unusual on the wedding day and I’d be able to wear them in the future as well” The overall look was beautiful and they perfectly complimented the bride´s stunning blush colour dress.
The Groom’s Look
With George having always envisaged himself saying yes in burgundy, a final extra was a golden collar pin. “It just added that touch of elegance and made the outfit very special.”
The Venue
In line with their “D-I-Y theme” the wedding took place in George’s parents’ garden in Lancashire. “We couldn’t have had it more beautiful than that. No hotels or rented venues can compare to the atmosphere you can create at home.”
The wedding ceremony itself was performed by none other than the Best Man and the Maid of Honour! “It was such a beautiful and emotional moment to be pronounced a husband and wife by our closest family and friends in the kitchen where George grew up. It couldn’t had been more perfect.”
The Evening Reception
The evening reception took place in a marquee outside where the “creative, funny and emotional speeches made by our family and friends absolutely made it.” Fellow friends had then prepared some traditional Lithuanian games like smashing plates and throwing amber dust into the fire for luck in their future marriage. “Our friends just wished us the loveliest things and it felt so personal and sincere.”
As it became dark, everyone hit the dance floor where George and his mates were spinning records and we only stopped at 4AM when the neighbours complained about the noise. It was a legendary party to celebrate the undeniable love– “it will long remain one of the happiest moments of our lives.”
Photographer
The wonderful day was captured beautifully by Motiejus Photography who documented the whole day from early morning preparations until the early hours of the party. “His attention to detail, dedication and ability to take photos of the most beautiful not scripted moments are absolutely wonderful. We cannot recommend him highly enough!”
