This season’s Ian Stuart collection Le Jardin is, as the name suggests, a return to nature. With a focus on replicating the delicacy of the natural world, and recreating its diverse patterns and shapes within the fabric, Le Jardin is intrinsically and inexorably romantic, whilst retaining a small element of whimsy and delight. In gowns that would not look out of place in a bohemian fairytale, Ian Stuart has succeeded in creating a series of wedding dresses that would be incredibly well suited for for vintage-themed weddings, alongside outside ceremonies and those in rustic, historic venues. However, let it not be said that Le Jardin does not also exude absolute luxury, and absolute character.
Perhaps the most visibly common attributes of the dresses of Le Jardin are tulle and embroidery. All but three of these exquisite gowns have large, flowing skirts, always designed with the most lightweight fabrics, mirroring the abandon of nature. The versatility of the collection, whilst all therein adhere to the theme, is impressive. For example, the titular dress has a strapless sweetheart neckline, and a bottom comprised of a waterfall of tulle adorned with the most dainty and meticulously applied butterly appliqués; another gown, named the Opera Noir dress, is black instead, with a lace embroidered underlay, and detachable cap sleeves. However, both perfectly embody the concept of the natural world, and the beauty within it.
And of course, any collection based on a garden-theme would not be complete without a few well-chosen splashes of colour. The Mardi Gras dress, with a dropped-waist and extravagant tulle skirt, is pictured here in its beautiful rose/ivory form, but is also available in variations of lilac, coral, and light blue. Similarly, indulgent notes of champagne, honey and antique pink are featured in other gowns, with many options for potential brides looking for a more unique gown. The height of couture, Ian Stuart’s Le Jardin is the perfect collection for the bride who wants to combine her femininity with a sense of freedom.
