The Wedding Genie wedding planner

Wedding planner Julie Dawson is The Wedding Genie, who was inspired by her own wedding to create a company that grants wedding wishes to couples throughout the UK. Let’s check out her unique take on wedding planning.
What inspired you to become a wedding planner?
Planning my own wedding was like embarking on the most fabulous journey ever. Thanks to everything I learnt, I can now think about what makes you and your partner tick. How can your wedding truly reflect your style and personality without breaking the bank and prevent wedding overload?
This philosophy became the basis of The Wedding Genie. I wanted to offer affordable and extremely useful services. I found through my research that many brides wanted to plan their own wedding but sometimes didn’t know where to start. A lot of them had busy careers and finding the time to plan was really difficult. I wanted to help strip away some of the hype and make wedding planning really enjoyable. The Wedding Genie was the name we thought best described us as we can be called upon for help when it’s needed the most.
Why is a Wedding Planner Service a Good Investment for Couples?
Time: Planning a wedding takes an incredible amount of time. When you are working full time with all of life’s normal commitments its very hard to fit it in. A Wedding Planner can guide you through the main topics of your wedding. Just this is extremely helpful, as once you have the day visualised and know the steps to move forward the planning can take place. From then on they take away the stress and use their time to research into finding excellent suppliers that are right for you.
Knowledge/Organisational Skills: Professional wedding planners know how to organise and create fantastic weddings. Most couples have never done this before so have no real knowledge or understanding of the wedding industry. A Wedding Planner listens to what you want and then turns it into reality.
Support: A Wedding Planner will never get tired of talking about your wedding, she will always be there on hand to step in and calm things down if needed. A Wedding Planner is the brides’ advocate, advisor and sometimes counsellor. A good Wedding Planner won’t take control but they will support you whenever you need it is vital.
Budget/Money: Weddings are very expensive and hiring a Wedding Planner can seem like an extra cost you can’t afford. In fact, negotiating with suppliers is what they do, it’s their role to ensure you get the best deal and the best service and quality. In fact a good Wedding Planner will only work with suppliers they trust and have worked with before.
Creativity: You want your wedding to be the best event your friends and family have ever been to, and also a great foundation to start married life on. Hiring a Wedding Planner will ensure this is the case. They know just how to create all the little details that make the wedding so you!
What are the Services You offer?
After much thought I came up with “My Genie for an evening Service” to tackle the issue of how to start and what to do. This service is a two-hour planning session – it starts with a questionnaire designed to get to know you. From this I can build a picture and prepare hints, tips and advice related to what’s right for you. We spend the whole time concentrating on what you want and how to tackle the planning. After the session I write up our discussions, which then becomes your “wedding road map”.
Another of my main services is “On the Day Coordination”. I meet my couples about a month before the wedding, at the venue. We go through everything and I take a list of all the suppliers and plans. After that the couple can sit back and pamper themselves on the run up to the wedding. They can wake up on the day, take off their watches and enjoy every single moment whilst I organise everything behind the scenes.
The rest of my services are designed around what you need, you just pay for the time you spend with me, or how long it takes me to do something. It can be full wedding planning or just an hour on the phone to help you start to plan.
If we rub the Wedding Genie Lamp what top three trends emerge for 2010 2011?
1. With the financial climate, I think we will see smaller more intimate weddings. Couples will be more discerning who they invite, which will prove for a very special and intimate atmosphere. We may very well see more backyard weddings, perhaps having a marquee in the garden.
2. A hot trend for 2010/11 is vibrant colours – orange, purple, pink, gold and turquoise are hot to trot.
3. This year I am seeing brides indulging in DIY decor for their venue. Everyone wants their wedding to be unique and to reflect their style and personality. Not only can it be a lot less expensive than hiring someone else to do it, but you can certainly put your stamp all over your big day. We are certainly fans of that at The Wedding Genie.
