Wedding cake 2010 – vintage

We know you brides out there love vintage. It’s that timeless look, mixed with a bit of contemparary flair, that just fits perfectly with bridal. So how about some suggestions for vintage style wedding cakes?
We’ve spoken to you in the past about vintage wedding dresses and yesterday in our post on Wedding Cake Trends for 2010, we mentioned that the vintage look was big in cakes. So here are a few details about how you can incorporate the vintage style into your wedding cake.
* Details – yes, just like vintage wear is all about classic details that you just can’t find anymore, so vintage style wedding cakes should have the same perfect details – delicate lace, pearls, feminine bows. And don’t forget, the best place to get inspiration is from your wedding dress!
* Copy your mum or grandmother’s cake. Get a photo and show it to your cake-maker for inspiration. This is a great homage to your family history, but also a sure-fire way to make sure your cake style harks back to the days of vintage.
For you to see just how lovely and vintage wedding cakes can be, check out these two amazing cakes from The Yummy Cake Company, run by Joanna Walton. The first one was inspired by the bride’s dress. Beautiful!
