Vera Wang 2013 – red wedding dresses to add spice and luck to your wedding look

Two words – Vera Wang. A name so synonymous with bridal fashion that she’s considered royalty and even had a mention in the Sex and The City series. Well, if her clothes are good enough for Charlotte York, they’re good enough for us!
The Vera Wang 2013 collection is an ensemble of classically cut gowns in rich oranges, reds and browns. Colour and texture are huge trends this season and you can have faith that this fabulous collection ticks all the boxes.
With tulle, taffeta and chiffon galore, Wang’s designs are a force to be reckoned with. Her strong aesthetics and generous use of fabric to create volume and drama have ensured that her label is a favourite amongst fashionistas each season. And ladies, this collection is no exception, be prepared to be blown away.

According to Chinese tradition, the colour red brings luck and the happiness you desire, especially in love and marriage. Wang, being the true romantic clearly wants to ensure that any woman fortunate enough to wear one of her brilliant creations in blessed in that sense. Either that or the label is trying to appeal to the Chinese market. My inner romantic wants to go with the former.

Structure is a key thread through the entire collection with fish tail skirts and corseted bodices appearing throughout. The combination of volume and structure creates a feminine silhouette and trophies a womanly, hourglass figure.

Notice the use of tulle and beading to create floral and fan-like detailing throughout. This element of the collections adds to the glamour and allure of the dresses.
Nevertheless, flamboyancy is not something Wang features, instead striving to create drama and volume subtly.

I am keen to add that the collection has an international feel to it, almost a celebration of world wide culture and tradition. Each gown has a Spanish-style wedding dress vibe, whilst the cut brings an Italian, Dolce Vita feel. Of course, the colours are reminiscent of Chinese tradition but also the Indian tradition of wearing rich reds on your wedding day.

Again, romance is a key theme in the entire collection with a 21st-century girl meets Disney princess feel throughout. Nevertheless, there is an obvious elegance to each dress, a certain je ne c’est quoi.

Wang is not the only designer to opt for colour this season with Oscar De La Renta opting for piercing ice-blue wedding dresses. Thus proving ladies that colour is very en point this season for you, the fashion loving bride.

Despite the beautiful use of colour and stunning texture, I can’t help but feel that the traditional whites, ivories and cream are missing. The collection is beautifully constructed and designed nevertheless, my inner traditionalist craves softer, more demure hues and tones. People will disagree with me, I am sure. However, close your eyes and imagine the stunning dress above in a soft ivory. One word- wow.
And yes, that one word sums up the entire collection. Wow.
