Trend predictions for White Gallery 2012
We at Zankyou love to predict what’s next in terms of bridal styles and trends, and as the White Gallery is getting ever closer, we’ve decided to dust off our crystal balls and give you an insight into what we’re expecting (or maybe hoping) to see at the shows next week.
Pastels

Bridalwear trends rarely follow high end fashion trends, and truth be told, it doesn’t need to. However, I do think that for 2013, bridalwear designers might take some inspiration from the High End Spring/Summer collections in the form of pastel colours. For a bride who doesn’t see herself in a white dress, pastel colours are a fantastic choice as they don’t stray too far from the norm but make for a warm, pleasing look. I can see many designers attempting this trend, and just like Rosa Clara above, I’m certain they’ll succeed.
Vintage inspiration

We love vintage inspired design here at Zankyou, most definitely 1920s inspired weddings. Yolan Cris has already showed a couple of 1920s-inspired dresses at Barcelona Bridal Week and it’s highly likely that this highly embellished, exceedingly dramatic and easily wearable style will appear in many 2013 collections. I also hope that we see inspiration from other highly fashionable decades. Will we see some curve enhancing ’50s-style dresses, or will this be the year of ’60s and ’70s bohemian styles?
Romantic

As we mentioned in a recent review of the Sally Lacock collection, many brides are now opting for a relaxed look for their wedding. A relaxed look inevitably means a romantic look and I wonder if the White Gallery designers will embrace this emerging trend this year? Of course, romantic looks can also be elaborate, luxurious and full of details, appliques and plenty of flowing fabric. I get truly excited about romantic wedding dresses, and hope to see relaxed romantic looks by the likes of Johanna Heir and Mia Mia, and maybe some dramatic and gothic romance by Ian Stewart.
Maximalism vs minimalism

It’s an age-old tale of conflict between the simple and the extravagant. Some designers pride themselves in clean lines and exquisite tailoring, others in dramatic shapes and modern detailing.
It’s the conflict between Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, and Pippa’s Bridesmaid dress.
There will be representation from both sides, I’m sure, but who will reign supreme?
Personally I’m hoping for some simple, pretty short dresses since I’ve been so adamant that every bride should have fabulous shoes on her wedding day (just check out these beauties from Irregular Choice Shoes), but I’m also crossing my fingers that there will be plenty of breathtaking lace and near technical details to drool over!
