In 1990, Vera Wang established her bridalwear company in New York. Since then, her gowns have graced brides ranging from Jennifer López to Sharon Stone, and while Wang’s dresses have become synonymous with elegance, they have also added an edge to traditional styles.

It all started when, after years working in the fashion industry, Wang saw a gap in the market and moved into bridal. However, as she told the New York Times in 2006, “I thought of myself not as a bridal designer but a fashion designer who happens to do white, ivory, nude. It’s good because it’s so off the radar.”

Since then Wang’s business has grown and the Vera Wang brand is one of the strongest in the wedding industry, providing advice on wedding planning in general. In terms of her dresses, her influence continues to grow and the comment “She had a Vera Wang dress” is one that automatically makes you want to check out the wedding photos.

Her Fall 2009 Forest Fantasia collection, reflects a bohemian/romantic style, rather than the edgy ’80s chic gracing non-bridal catwalks. Another constant is how her collections reflect as great a variety of styles as there are brides – something that has made her dresses so popular.

The latest catwalk designs include mermaid style with the up-to-the-minute ruffles in white to a full-skirted, off-the-shoulder number, decorated with a big romantic bow at the waist. Check out some more Vera Wang dresses, from her Spring and Fall 2009 collections below:
