Statement jewellery for brides
If you’re looking to making an impact with your bridal look, what about some statement jewellery to glam up a simpler dress?

Gone are the days when only pearls or diamonds would do on a bride. In fact, the coming of colour to bridal has meant that jazzing your dress up with a colourful floral appliqué, belt and now bright shoes, necklaces or earrings, is more than de rigeur.

But it’s not only about colour. It’s also about size. Statement jewellery does exactly that, make a statement. So go for something big, that will draw attention to itself. That’s the whole point.
The good thing about statement jewellery is that it isn’t all about one look. You can go for vintage pieces, perfect with a mermaid-style or empire-line dress, or more modern edgy pieces, perfect with plainer dress styles, like an unembellished off-the-shoulder piece.
But remember…the bigger your statement jewellery, the smaller and plainer other things have to be. In other words, if you want a lacy dress, or an elaborate headband, don’t go for a massive necklace or earrings. The statement look is all about balance, so make sure that your whole look works.
Finally, what are your options and where can you get things?
If you want something unique, Etsy is a great place to start, giving you access to bespoke designers with an eclectic range of pieces to suit a range of styles. Check out the Etsy wedding section and the Etsy jewelry section for ideas. Some of our favourites are PeripheryDesigns, BeVersatile and VintageStyleJewelry.
You can also ask your dress supplier for any recommendations; perhaps they know some great jewellery shops nearby.
Or what about some of these:
*Shefaly House of Jewels – suppliers of costume pieces for BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
*Accessorize – yes, we’re always mentioning Accessorize, but it’s just great!
*Statement Jewellery from ethical designers – check out this Guardian article
*And on a personal note…my favourite local artist, Mari Thomas. Her Decorative Concepts pieces will not only make an impact on your big day but will also become a new family heirloom.
