Ruffles – a wedding dress trend for 2009
Catwalks have been covered with ruffles for some time now and New York was no different in 2009 thanks to John Galliano. His earlier Paris show for Dior had also confirmed the designer’s penchant for Vermeer-inspired collars, cuffs and crinolines and it seems this look is going to be around for while.
It’s no surprise, then, that wedding dresses have also fallen under the spell of this romantic look and that ruffles are, like last year, one of the wedding trends for summer ’09. Monique Lhuillier is just one of the designers who loves the romantic touch given by ruffles.
So whether it’s a tiered skirt or ruffled cuffs and collars, remember that this detail adds texture to your look and creates enough fuss in your gown to get you out of any kind of complicated hairstyles or flowers.
Ruffles on gowns can be Spanish-style, adding a bit of spice to a summer wedding, or perhaps you’d prefer a more relaxed bohemian-style dress. There could even be something almost Dangerous Liasons about a little ruffle around the collar and bosom, if that’s the kind of look you’re after. Or you can just go big, Colleen McLoughlin-style, in her Marchesa dress.
