Today we present to you Maya and Julien’s beautiful wedding in an 18th Century Monastery in France. Photography by Sonia Blanc.
The Meeting
We actually met at work. We were both new arrivals in our department and we met for the first time during a meeting for newcomers, organised by management.
The Proposal
Julien arranged a surprise proposal whilst on our summer holiday in the north of Sardinia. Our hotel had a small beach which was lit up by some lights in the evening and which overhung a restaurant. Julien had spotted it and quickly decided that it would be the perfect, discreet spot to ask for my hand in marriage. We had dinner at the restaurant in question the first Saturday evening that we arrived and afterwards Julien suggested a stroll on the beach. He got down onto one knee and I, of course, accepted with tears in my eyes.
The Preparations
We decided to celebrate our wedding in Bourgogne, a region we both adore as well as it being Julien’s hometown. With neither of us living locally and both very occupied with our professional lives, we called upon a wedding planner. This decision turned out to be a good solution for us as we weren’t stressed by the organisation and the reception venue was quickly chosen, and selected according to our criteria with our organiser. The suppliers were also quickly sourced, we were quite demanding about everything. We chose a charming chateau for our reception, which we had fallen head over heels in love with from the very beginning of our venue visits.
The Big Day
Our wedding was magical and filled us with joy and happiness. We were about 50 in total, and we opted for a secular ceremony following the civil ceremony in the afternoon at City Hall. Later on we had a dinner as well as a brunch the next day. Our guests were of different origins and languages but a cosy and familial ambience was immediately established among them. The atmosphere was human; you could feel the love of the people for the moment and for us. It was incredible.
