Winter weddings are all the rage, and this couple’s wedding really shows you how to bring a bit of seasonal magic to your day. Check out their wonderful wedding to steal some ideas on how to plan your do.
The Couple
Everyone loves a holiday romance! It was the sweet beginning for Liz and Gary who first met in 2007 whilst holidaying in Malia, where each had been staying with a group of friends in the same hotel. They exchanged numbers before they flew home, and arranged to meet up again shortly after. For the next 4 years, Liz would travel to Stockport to see Gary and he would travel to Rotherham to see Liz, until they eventually moved in together to a new place in Rotherham where they have been living for the last 4 years.
The Proposal
Gary popped the question during a romantic break just a couple of days before Liz was due to turn 30, which meant Liz saw out her 20s in memorable fashion with an exciting future to look forward to! They decided to go for a winter wedding and began looking for the perfect venue for their big day.
The Venue
Having searched high and low for the ideal venue, nowhere quite ticked all of the right boxes for them. At least, until they walked into Whitley Hall, in a rural part of Sheffield. The hotel and its grounds are nothing short of stunning, the food divine and the staff exceptional. Not wanting to miss out, the couple asked about winter dates there and then, before booking their big day for the weekend before Christmas!
The Dress
Liz tried on a number of dresses in Elite Bridal, Castleford, before she finally stumbled upon the one. A dress that she had thought was too plain to be worth trying on was suggested to her by one of the assistants as being her favourite in the shop. When she did put it on, she immediately felt like a princess and was totally taken aback. It was enough to bring a tear to her mum’s eye too! It was clear, she had found the dress for her.
The Details
Having a wedding so close to Christmas might put some off, but Liz says it made it all the more special. The staff at Whitley Hall took care of every last detail, with everything well organised and nothing left to chance. The couple enlisted the help of Paula Rix from Cover in Style to transform the venue into a winter wonderland, which she did with real panache, as you can see from the photographs courtesy of Barry of Autumn Stone Photography. Barry had photographed Gary’s brother’s wedding previously, so the couple knew they could count on him and felt really at ease working with him. The quality of his work speaks for itself.
There is a lot to be said for winter weddings, and if this wonderful big day is anything to go by, a winter wedding so close to Christmas need not be something to fear. Liz and Gary showed that it can add a real extra dimension to your day.
