Get on-trend for this year’s summer weddings

Without a doubt one of the major things setting this summer’s wedding trends is THAT wedding, from the dresses and flowers to hair and makeup this year’s Royal Wedding has women everywhere in a flutter.

The demands for lace shot up after the wedding and understandably so. An amazing modernly designed yet vintage inspired wedding dress, it ticked all the boxes. With whispers of comparisons to Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, the vintage inspiration on Kate Middleton’s wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton was duly noted and also recognised as one of the other major trends emerging this season.

This season’s Bride and Groom are going all out to really express themselves and who they truly are on their wedding day.  From funky themes and venues to channeling particular eras, couples are seemly stepping away from the more traditional style wedding and seeing their day as a chance to share who they are with their friends and families. Some opting for the DIY approach, setting the tables, making the invites and adding those personal touches everyone loves.

Garden tea parties, unusual reception venues, non-traditional clothing and stunning photography are the order of the day.  All this achievable by the amazing talent and skills of today’s wedding suppliers.

Wedding cakes are no longer standing alone in the corner, the desert table is becoming a big hit with all manner of cakes, cupcakes, candy and ice cream in all shapes and colours and even something for the kids.

So too for the wedding party, more and more brides are adding that splash of colour to their dress or shoes and mismatching the bridesmaids. Even the Grooms are jumping on board with a more relaxed approach to their wedding attire.

This year’s summer weddings are also great for the guests. Women have an abundance of colour and beautiful feminine shapes to choose from and with the rise in popularity of the garden tea parties, it has never been a better time to wear the much loved tea dress, and for the Mother of the bride, something floral and flowing.

Bright shirts and linen suits are a great option of the men’s wedding wear, bang on trend and comfortable all day wear!

And for those long hot sunny summer days take care of the guests with some great ideas for wedding favours, table decorations and place settings, fans, parasols and personalised cool bottled drinks are a great way to help your guest survive the heat of the day.

For a truly unique spin why not go for a signature drink for the day, perhaps one that ties in with your colour scheme or theme and something all your guest will remember.

I love the idea of white suits for the groom’s party, especially for an outdoor destination type wedding, but it seems a bit dangerous. Too much linen and they could end up looking like Don Jonson. Not enough and you could end up looking like you were about to break out into a cabaret number. And shoes – white shoes to match the outfit – VERY dangerous territory. I break out in a sweat just thinking about it. Is there a guide to the do’s and don’ts for the guys in the minefield of non traditional suit options?
