This season has seen the rival of the great vintage accessory- feathers. Think The Great Gatsby but with a fresh, 21st century twist. This trend requires opulence, decadence and a whole lot of confidence. When a look is championed on the autumn/winter 2012 ready to wear runways of Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Giles and Bottega Veneta, you know it’s going to be a winner.
Feathers are a hard look to pull off therefore, remembering what volume you are comfortable with is essential. Today we will show you how to work a full feathered dress with grace and confidence or simply a subtle feathered accessory to create the wow factor.

Above-left is a beautiful Marchesa wedding dress with dramatic feather detailing from top to bottom. Cleverly, the detailing is gathered around the smallest part of the waist to create the illusion of an hour glass figure.
In contrast, the stunning gown from Chado Ralph Rucci on the right offers a darker twist to the trend. Unsuspecting black feathers will ensure you create an impact on your big day.
Above are two beautiful gowns by Watters which offer a softer, more demure spin on feathered gowns. The subtle detailing gives an ethereal aura which is the trend at the moment. Think Florence Welch, the fashionable front woman of Florence and The Machine in fabulous feathers.

However, not all brides choose to opt for such opulence and drama. Alternatively, accessories can be the perfect option for those who want to work the trend.
Headbands, fascinators and clips are equally as fashionable. Think flapper ensembles circa 1920′s with a modern, fresh twist.

Colour can be a key feature in the headpiece, creating high charged glamour and a truly vintage look. Teamed with pearls or lace, feathers are incredibly fashionable but also, timeless in the sense that they will be eternally glamorous.
