Getting married is a celebration of your life. Your life together, the lives you brought with you when you met. That’s why lots of couples decide to go back to their roots for their big day. Celina and Álex did this when they chose the north-western Spanish region of Galicia for their destination wedding. Mexicans by birth, their families had left Galicia years before to settle in America. So when they thought about going back to their roots for their big day, they chose the amazing Parador de Santo Estevo de la Riba in Galicia, which is located in a beautiful former 10th-century Benedictine monastery.
Celina knew she wanted to get married in the Paradorbecause the building had played a special part in her family history. The amazing location therefore made for an emotional day.
The day started with the preparations. Celina wore a beautiful dress designed by Aire Barcelona and finished it off with a pair of coral-coloured shoes with ‘I Do’ in Swarowski crystals on the soles. Álex, meanwhile, wore a typical Mexican outfit. The details of the couple’s wedding were captured by photographer Cecilia López, ensuring great memories for the couple after the rush of the big day is a thing of the past.
After getting dressed in the rooms at the Parador, Celina and Álex went to the spectacular location for the ceremony – the monastery’s church.
Now as husband and wife, the couple took full advantage of the amazing building for their photographs while their guests enjoyed a cocktail reception in the monastery’s gardens.
As the wedding took place in the summer, the open-air reception was held in the cloisters. The menu, which included a seafood platter, fish and prawns, steak and two desserts, was a big hit. “The food was excellent and there was plenty of it!” explains Celina.
After dinner, the dance – including some authentic Mariachi music – kept everyone going into the early hours. It was also time for more relaxed photos with fun props, including blow-up instruments, wigs and stick-on moustaches, all prepared by the couple themselves with the help of the Parador‘s wedding planner.
Just a few days later, Celina looked back on her wedding day and remembered all the amazing details, including the help and care received from the team at Paradores. “They were so ready to help us and our guests with a smile,” says the satisfied bride. “Now, the Parador de Santo Estevo will always be one of those places that we will visit for weekends away and family celebrations.” If you’re thinking of planning a destination wedding in Galicia, just click on the link to find out more about what’s on offer at the Parador de Santo Estevo.
