Capturing the best that nature has to offer, is a real luxury and making the most of the beauty of our surroundings is a very special thing, even more so when we add in the magic of butterflies. Bringing our environment into the decor of your wedding is a wonderful idea. With different colours, patterns and all different types of species, butterfly decor is here to stay as a real trend this year.
Butterflies were part of the decor for my wedding six years ago, so it really does make me smile being able to write about this very special theme and I hope you love it as much as I do.
Butterflies allow you to include a multitude of tones, patterns and styles which will tie in perfectly to any colour scheme you’ve chosen. Each detail will see itself adorned with this pretty design, from your bridal look (I wore a butterfly shaped Swarovski brooch on the sash of my dress), to your centrepieces (I had butterflies on all the glassware and as a centrepiece for the children’s table), let your imagination be carried away!
If like me you adore butterflies and their magic, don’t think twice about making these the focal point of your wedding decor. Starting with the bride’s style, butterflies are easily integrated into the wedding bouquet, be it as paper or as 3D fabric butterflies. These can also be included as part of your jewellery – my bridesmaids wore butterfly necklaces and my flower girl even had little butterflies on her shoes and dress, or a stunning butterfly hairpiece would look incredibly pretty and unique.
Furniture is the perfect stage for your butterflies. Just a couple of these pretty creatures on chairs or on your tables will give your ceremony and reception a magnificent look. If you’re having an outdoor wedding, a few butterflies suspended from trees in the form of hanging mobiles will look exquisite! Don’t be afraid to experiment with DIY and handmade elements, this will add a beautiful and very personal touch to your wedding.
Stationery is the perfect platform for butterflies. For example, your wedding invitations in the shape of a butterfly or with a few incorporated into the design. You could also include some butterflies on your menu cards, your seating plans or as wedding favours for your guests. If you want to take this theme to the next level, try and hire crockery with a butterfly print. The combination of colours and the visual effect created when all of the elements in this setting come together will be incredible.
These lovely ideas don’t end here. When it comes to really showing off your creativity, the setting, the wedding cake and the dessert table are perfect focal points for this theme. Try and match the butterflies you choose to your colour scheme, with matching tones or magnificent contrasting colours. We assure you, everyone will be very impressed with your efforts and style. It certainly worked for me, I now use butterflies on my personal stationery, business cards and letterheads as a reminder of my perfect day.
