Zankyou: How did you come up with the idea of turning the space into a wedding venue?
El Mas Groc: It was a small family farm, where the locals who worked on the land used to visit. Steeped in history, with papers dating back to 1532, there are documents showing that even the famous architect Gaudi’s family used to visit.
In 2001 the farmhouse was opened to tourists and due to the demand, was then reinvented as a venue, ideal for holding large banquets and events. The location is perfect as after partying the night away in the magnificent banquet hall, guests can then spend the night in the farmhouse.
Z: What different spaces are available?
EMG: By conserving the traditional characteristics of the farmhouse, we are able to keep a rural and rustic feel. There are various different spaces such as the pine tree forest, where civil ceremonies, wedding receptions and cocktail banquets can be held. The mulberry tree square, where food is usually served under the shade of the trees. The lawn and pool is a great chill out area which is usually kitted out with vintage straw rugs, wooden reels and lanterns to give your wedding that countryside feel. There’s even a large marquee which is 18m in diameter…
In a rare case when the weather is not on our side, there is a large indoor dining room within the old farmhouse which contains beautiful original stone walls. There are also various other rooms, like the the noble room which has a bedroom and reception room which are ideal for brides to get ready for their big day in!
Z: How many guests can you hold?
EMG: The capacity is approximately 180 guests. We only ever hold one event per day.
Z: Do you work with selected suppliers, or can the couple choose their own?
EMG: With regards to catering, we work with a small group of selected caters to ensure that the day is a success. The idea is that we provide good quality food that is made on site. The couple can bring their own caterers if they meet our quality requirements. When it comes to photographers and DJs etc, couples can bring whoever they choose.
Z: What styles of weddings can be held at your venue?
EMG: All types of wedding can be celebrated here. We like to personalise each wedding we hold. Even pets are welcome!
Z: Can the couple and/or guests stay at the venue?
EMG: Up to 18 adults and 3 children can stay overnight, and can enjoy a continental self serve style breakfast the following morning.
Z: What sets you apart from the rest?
EMG: The venue has a beautiful rustic air about it. Our ability to customise the decor and our flexibility to adapt to the needs of the couple make us stand out from the crowd. As well as the location of the venue, being only 90 minutes away from Barcelona and just 10 minutes from Reus with an airport nearby.
Z: What additional services do you offer to couples?
EMG: We offer a bus service, food before and after the wedding day. a hairdresser and a florist. As well as details like a personalised photo album using Polaroid cameras, a vintage caravan, a candy table, the couple’s initials lit up with bulbs, a chill out area kitted out with vintage rugs…
