7 romantic destinations for your honeymoon in Italy

Remember we told you about honeyweekends last year? The perfect short breaks for couples who can’t take a 2-week honeymoon! Well, Italy’s the perfect place for a honeyweekend. It’s just a short plane-ride away and it’s romantic.

To help you decide where you want to go, Zankyou Italia Editor Simona and her friends at Miniviaggi have come up with their 7 favourite honeymoon destinations in la bella Italia!

1. Venice

Italy’s most romantic location – Venice. You can’t deny it – palaces and gondolas are the perfect backdrop for a proposal or a honeymoon. Visit the Piazza San Marco or the Canal Grande, two of the most famous tourist destinations. Or how about taking a walk around the centre of the city, where there are hardly any tourists, to find the soul of the real Venice.

2. Val d’Aosta

Val d’Aosta is a place for history, princes and princesses and lots of swashbuckling romance. This small region, full of castles, such as the famous Fenis castle, means you’ll spend your honeyweekend in another time, just the two of you, on a medieval adventure.

3. Ostuni

Ostuni is a city in Puglia, famous for its architecture and white walls, similar to a Greek island. Couple this with its nearby beaches and no wonder it’s a popular destination in summer. Perfect for a chilled out break.

4. Verona

Can you imagine spending your honeymoon in the hometown of Romeo and Juliet? With a visit to Verona, you’ll spend your break in the shadow of these two star-crossed lovers and even be able to visit Juliet’s balcony. Perfect for a proposal, if you haven’t popped the question yet!

5. Rome

There is a special place in the heart of Rome, where no guided tour takes you. Don’t leave the Colosseum metro stop by the main gate to the tourist bars, restaurants, 21st century centurions and the inevitable souvenir stands. Instead climb the road that takes you right above the subway, where you will find breathtaking views in a terrace overlooking the Colosseum. Talk about romantic…

6. Acitrezza

Is there anywhere more romantic than Sicily? A Mediterranean island, filled with history, great food and the best sunsets you can imagine. This town, in Catania province, on the east of the island, is just one example of the way this island really can take you away from everything.

7. Capri

Another island, in the Gulf of Naples, Capri is the perfect combination of Mediterranean beauty and old fashioned luxury. Join the likes of Mariah Carey on the island in summer, as you spend your honeymoon on the beach by day and under the stars by night.
